Richard Mellman

Mr. Mellman has been practicing personal injury law for over 32 years.  He attended Parsons College in Iowa, graduating in 1969 with a B.A. in history.  After marrying, he and his wife moved to Kenya for two years where Mr. Mellman taught high school.  He then graduated from the University of Nebraska Law School in 1974.  While in law school, Mr. Mellman enjoyed activities such as the moot court competition.  After law school, the Mellman family moved to Florida, where he was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1975.

Mr. Mellman first practiced in the Miami area for 14 years until relocating to Gainesville in 1988.  Mr. Mellman's legal career has been primarily focused on personal injury law.  He has tried cases throughout Florida and is admitted to all three Florida District Courts as well as the U.S. Court of Claims.  Mr. Mellman has volunteered over the years as an Attorney ad Litem.  He also has been a member of the Rotary Club, and served on the local Bar Grievance Committee which he chaired.  He has also acted as an officer in several capacities for 17 years on the Florida Client Security Fund.

Mr. Mellman's family includes his wife of 37 years, Sima, and their two children.  His son is a school teacher in Atlanta, and his daughter is an Assistant State Attorney in Gainesville.  He is an active member of the Baha'i Faith.  Mr. Mellman's leisure interests include spending time with his extended family, playing Bridge, RV'ing with his wife, reading, participating in the Jane Austin Society, and working on Social and Economic Development projects throughout the Americas.
