In the city of Gainesville, it is reported that a 10-year-old boy was recently the victim of a dog bite. Accounts show that while responding to a burglary call at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, a police officer released a police dog that ended up biting 10-year-old boy Bryce Bates.
Bates was riding his bicycle to get his mother the mail when he heard the police car speeding up behind him. Becoming scared that he possibly might get hit, the young boy jumped off his bike and began to run to his house.
Police say the officer responding to the burglary-in-progress saw the young boy on his bike and called for him to stop. When he didn't respond, they released the dog.
As Bates approached the front door, the dog caught up and bit into his left thigh leaving him with one large puncture wound and several other smaller bites and scratches. Afterwards, Bates was taken to a hospital by ambulance where his various wound were taken care of and he was later released.
